Location and History

The Coach House is a separate, self-contained two-storey unit located at the end of our driveway, only 30m from the main hostel. The two rooms are accessed separately from Bishops Rd and Bishops Place respectively. For guests arriving by car, there is a drop-off and loading zone in our driveway which allows you to check in, get directions and unload your car before finding a parking space outside the Coach House or on surrounding streets. No need to carry your bags into the main building as you will be heading back past your car on the way to your room. Car parking in this part of town is still unlimited and free of charge.

Originally, the Coach House was – as its name suggests – the coach driver’s accommodation and included coach storage and stables on the ground floor. Built in the 1880s and modified slightly once coaches were no longer in use, it saw the start to a complete rebuild in 2005. Today, the only ‘original’ part which had to be retained in order to be able to rebuild in the same location, is its brick walls. Unfortunately, all of the original timber (including floors, linings and the roof) had to be replaced. Structurally strengthened and extensively redesigned internally, it now offers a charming and contemporary style of accommodation while retaining much of the original look externally.
